Our Mission

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide an inclusive space for people to express themselves through the study of historical fencing.

Our approach is not a purist one - we do not only study one source, nor do we stop ourselves from making inferences that are not directly attributed in the text. The overall goal is to give the students a framework built from multiple sources so they may find their own way of wielding their weapon of choice in a historically and martially sound manner. A student may find a renaissance greatsword technique works well with a shorter medieval longsword - we are not here to tell them they can't do that. As long as their technique and expression is ultimately rooted in the principles derived from our study of the texts, we are happy to give students the tools to build their own style within the structure we provide.

As a HEMA Alliance affiliate, we encourage freedom of study and the free exchange of information. When we all share what we learn, we can only stand to grow and improve as a whole from it.

We support the Fighters Against Racism movement and strive to ensure our space remains safe and open for people of all backgrounds.
